Long before it was cool to “be green,” critically acclaimed actress Alicia Silverstone was coming forward as a passionate and vocal advocate for environmental causes. In her new book, Silverstone reveals how eating a plant-based diet not only provides numerous health benefits for you, but is also a major contribution to the health of the planet.
Filled with personal anecdotes, motivational tips, and nearly 100 recipes, The Kind Diet is a fun and accessible way to begin your own journey toward better health. Whether you are simply curious about life without meat or are ready to go macrobiotic, The Kind Diet’s three different approaches offer a way to choose the path that’s right for you. – Kepler’s Books
Alicia Silverstone is an American actress, author, and former fashion model. She first came to widespread attention in music videos for Aerosmith, and is best known for her roles in Hollywood films such as Clueless (1995) and her portrayal of Batgirl in Batman & Robin (1997).
Silverstone recently published the vegan nutrition book, The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight and Saving the Planet. The guide includes diet and fitness guidance and advice, along with holistic living tips. It “explores the connection between what we put in our bodies and what we’re doing to the planet, and how choosing the right foods in the kitchen can help you feeling lighter, sexier, and more alive.” She has also produced an online production called “The Kind Life.”
It is described as an online expansion of her book, focusing on global warming and vegetarian topics.

Is it really healthy to turn vegetarian? Here I look at some of the popular excuses vegetarians like to use against meat eaters and omnivorous people. I personally have always been an omnivore, which is how humans were really meant to live. If you want to be a vegetarian, that’s your choice, it’s your right. But I don’t appreciate vegetarians trying to foist their beliefs on me. Just as it is your right to be a vegetarian, it is my right to be an omnivore. And no, before you get started, that is NOT what made me fat in the first place!!
One very popular excuse vegetarians and PETA loves to use against meat eaters is that we raise the CO2 and methane levels in the atmosphere. I explain in here how I do not understand how they came to this conclusion, and besides the obvious why I think it’s a stupid excuse to get people to stop eating meat. But then vegetarians always contradict themselves anyway. There is really NO reasonable excuse to switch to a strictly vegetarian diet. No more than PETA and vegetarian supporters believe there is no reasonable explaination to eating meat. But here, I give a great reason I have, through personal experience, why I eat meat. I don’t want to suffer the same fate as my grandma almost did.

People in Hanoi, Vietnam, were told to go vegetarian through a slightly unusual, albeit attractive, method.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals dressed a model in lettuce to draw attention to their cause.
And the message of the day: save the planet by going vegetarian.
Though PETA is usually more concerned with the suffering of animals, according to the organization, consumption of meats, eggs, and dairy products is a leading cause of global climate change.
However, there are relatively few vegetarians in Vietnam, in part due to their culture. Even the model, a student at the Financial Institute, is not a full vegetarian.
[Dam Hong Loan, 4th Year Student]:
“It has always been in Vietnamese culture that people are only vegetarian if they practice Buddhism. But nowadays, some, myself for example, have been consuming a lot of meat. That’s why moving to vegetarian is very difficult. I am slowly moving to having a vegetarian-diet once a week.”
The typical Vietnamese diet consists of a lot of meat, a major source of the population’s nutritional needs. There are some people who eat the occasional vegetarian meal, but it is more of a stress-relief dietary measure. They are generally not thinking of animal suffering, PETA’s main cause.
Nevertheless, Jason Baker, the Vice President of PETA, is encouraged with his method.
[Jason Baker, Vice President of PETA]:
“It is a fun, exciting way to talk about a serious message, and that’s ‘going vegetarian.’ So hopefully people will walk by or drive by and will start to think about why they should go vegetarian. And that is because it is good for your health, its good for the planet and most of all, it’s good for animals.”
Though security guards quickly told them to disperse – or to simply cross the street, out of their jurisdiction – crowds did indeed gather to check out the salad-dressed message.
