How do you feel about the new [ish] MyPlate?

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Just curious. I was looking for the vegetarian food pyramid today and that innane thing popped up. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how this is considered "moving in the right direction." Thoughts?

How is it Not moving in the right direction?

It is simply 1/4 protien. It does NOT have to be meat, but ANY protien source. 1/4 carbs. Of course whole or multigrian are best sources and 1/2 your plate should be fruit and veggies?

Serving sizes are still the same recomended amount, this is MUCH easier than the pyramid.

Gluten Free Fruit Turnover: a celiac delight!

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

This is how I make my fruit turn-overs, free of gluten and safe for those with celiac disease. But, healthful for everyone…tastes really good too!

I also talk here about the importance of using animal fat over veggie oils. Information learned from studying Dr. Weston A. Price’s lifetime of research. Butter helps assimilate nutrients. Modern science now confirms this. You can also learn more about the health benefits of animal fat by watching the Oiling of America.

American’s have been sold nothing but snake oil by the vegetable oil industry. Since the use of veggie oils becoming industry standard heart disease and artery deterioration has only gone up! Animal fats actually keep veins strong and supple and are vital in the formation of the growing fetus.

With the exception of coconut oil and cold pressed olive oil, other veggie oils easily oxidize and became rancid, putting free radicals in your body just like radiation does. Most veggie oils are very unstable oils and should not be used, especially when heated. However, you can deep fry in coconut oil and olive oil should only be used raw, cold pressed. So, feel free to enjoy coconut and olive oil.

Dr. Weston A. Price found in his travels and search for perfect health that the Eskimos had superior health…eating a 100% meat diet of raw seal meat dipped in seal fat. This blows the vegetarian health craze out of the water and also destroys the mythical dangers of fat on health.

Fat also is not responsible for obesity. The Atkins diet proved this by showing carbohydrates cause weight gain. Refined carbs from typical flour is like eating sugar. Sadly, most American’s do not even know that the flour they consume is from wheat. Such ignorance! It is the base of their diet and they never even pondered what the it is or where it is from, let alone how it is processed and how it destroys their health. So bizarre.

For a country that likes to brag about leading the world, I must confess we did lead in the highest cases of diseases not even seen by third world countries. Doctors here just push pills they get kick backs on instead of offering preventative health care and people just pop the chem pills prescribed. For a mighty sickly bunch, it doesn’t seem to be working, but Big Pharma loves the stupidity of the masses, laughing all the way to the bank.

Since the use of refined wheat flour as the base of the food pyramid became industry standard, obesity and diabetes, as well as cancer, has become a national epidemic. So has mental illness. Yes, that too is connected to a high processed, refined food diet. Science also has confirmed this, but in Traditional Chinese Medicine they have known this for a long, long time. Ayurvedic Health Care also realized this many moons ago.

The food pyramid has since been changed in the United States of Arrogance and it is now FINALLY acknowledged we should eat far fewer carbs and never in refined formed. Whole grains are the way to go. No doubt.

Celiacs cannot eat gluten found in wheat, rye, barely, kamut, simolina and spelt. However, nobody should be eating these grains in refined form ever. The body metabolizes them as simple sugars. Whole grains do not turn you into a giant fat ass.

In my studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine I learned that gluten is extremely difficult on the spleen and should not be consumed in large amounts and should never be consumed in its refined formed. Celiacs cannot eat any form of gluten whatsoever.

Refined flour based diets forming the SAD diet, Standard American Diet, lead to Celiac Disease, Crone’s Disease, irritable bowl, leaky gut syndrome, Alzheimer’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, hair loss, migraines, fibromyalgia, epilepsy, glaucoma, lupus, edema, miscarriage, neurological disorders, mental illness, anemia, fatigue, osteoporosis, auto immune disorders, diabetes, skin disorders such as cysts, boils, acne, eczema, psoriasis, fever blisters and ultimately an early death from degenerative diseases in general due to vitamin deficiencies. Sad, but true.

Grains should not be refined, but whole. Safe grains and flour alternatives for celiacs are:

corn
oats
rice
millet
amaranth
quinoa
potato

Life in it’s fullest is nature’s law obeyed. -Dr. Weston A. Price

Paleodiet criticizes Raw Food diet as “not optimal”

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

http://www.alexshalman.com/2009/08/03/alexshalman-com-podcast-018-interviewing-mark-sisson/

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/

The first tip for success is when you take on any program — diet, exercise — regimen, its important that you own it and understand that no matter who you are, no matter where you come from, no matter what sort of background you have or what sort of future you predict for yourself your health is probably your number one job. If youre not healthy and dont have the ability to go through life and enjoy every moment, it really sours the whole life experience.

I really do want people to own that notion that your job as a human being, first and foremost, is to stay healthy. Thats what your genes want you to do, and when you do that then everything else you do increases by orders of magnitude. The enjoyment of life, the ability to experience movement and be able to travel and to have access to memories and to be able to support your loved ones and to be able to love. All of these things emanate from the first core job one, which is to stay healthy. Its critical to embarking on any new program.
~Mark Sisson~

Mark Sisson: #Primal vs #Vegan

The human body is a very adaptable mechanism. For instance, some people have survived on seaweed and shoe leather during the great potato famine. However, surviving is not necessarily thriving, and Mark contends that there has never been a society in history that has survived on a meatless diet.

Speaking extremes — if you happen to be an adult that has already gone through the development stages, and go from a fried food and grain diet to a fresh fruits and vegetables based diet, youll obviously see improvements and feel better for some time.

The base of the Primal Blueprint foods pyramid has fruits and vegetables as the base of the diet. Cutting out the meats, fish, poultry, and other proteins may have its consequences, but it doesnt mean that as a Vegan or Raw Foodist or Vegetarian you wont thrive and survive. Its just not optimal if you are looking to maximize your health, strength, lean body mass and all the things required to create the ideal body.

Mark Sisson goes on to share his thoughts on a book that I have enjoyed for a few years called The China Study. He contends that the book was written with a bias that does not reflect the actual research. Perhaps if Dr. Campbell, author of The China Study, wrote a book based on the actual research, he might not have come up with the same conclusions.

In recent longevity studies, it has been shown that individuals who consume the least amount of calories tend to be the ones that live the longest. The results in The China Study could thus be a function of calorie restriction. Mark Sisson contends that Dr. Campbell never looks at populations that are strictly vegetarians, just ones that consume less meat, less fish, and thus less calories.

In The Primal Blueprint, Mark Sisson points out that humans evolved to do a lot of low level activity, and the populations of China that have been studied in a lot of studies are rural populations where people do a lot of physical labor. Theyre working their days doing low level activities in the fields, which Mark contends is the perfect type of exercise. conscious evolution raw vegan optimal health sustainable community timeline 2012 brian clement emotional eating food addiction spiritual growth healing living food

Are Humans Designed To Eat Meat?

Tuesday, October 18th, 2011

A presentation by Milton Mills, M.D..

The major causes of death in Western countries are cardiovascular diseases and cancers. Abundant medical research linking these diseases to dietary and lifestyle factors, guidelines advanced by the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Surgeon General, among others, counsel Americans to sharply reduce animal foods consumed and replace them with fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In effect, they are recommending a more plant-based diet, which begs the question: Are humans designed to eat meat?

Milton Mills, M.D. has an extensive background in nutrition research, focusing on the role nutrition plays in the development of chronic diseases. He is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine and is a practicing physician in the Washington, D.C. area. He also serves as the Associate Director of Preventive Medicine for the health policy group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. He has lectured extensively throughout North America and is a Nutrition Health Education Video Spokesperson for the Discovery Health Channel.
