I am a vegeterian and want to be a vegan. How do I talk to my mom about it?

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

I am a vegeterian and want to be vegan. Don’t tell me to eat meat. I want helpful answers please.

Maybe you can

1. Bring her to a good vegetarian/vegan restaurant for a nice lovely meal and then let her know you want to be a vegan.

2. show her the vegan society website, let her understand what is veganism.

3. if she don’t want to go to the vegan society website, you can collect or print out information on going vegan, for her to read. To show that you know what you are doing and let her have a better understanding of what is veganism.

4. let her know, you will take care of yourself, your diet, your own shopping etc, so she will not have to worry and it won’t inconvience her

All the best :)

cheers

Confessions of a Low Class Vegan – Karl Seff Ph.D.

Slightly darkened version at ‘http://www.youtube.com/watch?edit=vd&v=lG0oNyBQrS4

Let me remind you of a simpler side of yourself. Think of the meaning of a big bowl of wholesome food to a desert traveler in ancient times. Tofu can be eaten directly with some added flavor; frozen peas don’t need to be cooked. Fresh baked whole grain bread is yours without having to bake it. A hot chunk of orange squash with cold kim chee is delicious. A whole dinner can come from a cast-iron Dutch oven. Don’t be ashamed to eat a banana or a bell pepper out of hand, or, with a sauce of your choosing, a carrot or a cucumber. Recipes? Meal planning? Yes, but it can be so simple with little washing up to do. Whom are you trying to impress? It is not hard for a vegan to prepare and love a plain healthy dinner.

Karl Seff earned his Ph.D. from M.I.T. and has been a Professor of Chemistry at U.H. Manoa since 1968. He has authored more than 260 scientific papers. He has
been a vegan since April,1991 and has been on the Board of Directors of the VSH since 1992

What foods do I have to eliminate to become vegan?

Saturday, November 17th, 2012

Ive been vegetarian for a few years and I’ve decided to become vegan. I don’t know much on how to do it. What do I have to stop eating? I know eggs and milk. Does cheese and chocolate have to go?

I can recommend going to the Vegetarian & Vegan Society website.
Don’t worry about not getting enough nutrients – with a properly balanced vegan diet it is practically impossible to not get enough.
Go for it

Where do I go to get these certain vegan products?

Friday, November 16th, 2012

I want to be vegan, but I’m 14, and my mom obviously pays for things. Is there some kind of website that shows you which stores have certain vegan things. Like I need to find a store near me that sells vegan cheese, egg replacers, vegan margarine, etc. Mostly I’m having a hard time finding the dairy-type products that are vegan. It needs to be somewhere near me like Food Lion, Publix, Wal Mart, Ingles, etc. Please help.

Over time you might want to consider migrating away from such "fakes" and adopting a diet that is uncorrupted by the taint of historic animal ingredients.

Good luck and well done for being a self-starter at such a tender age. I only hope that you have a good equivalent to the Vegan Society we have here in the UK.

What would you do with all the land liberated from farming animals?

Watch the show, then create a photo-message like these but about your own vision. Email it to Amanda on: media@vegansociety.com as soon as possible for a chance to be featured by The Vegan Society!

Vast acres of land will be freed up as we move away from farming non-human animals. In the UK, a well-planned vegan diet needs just one third the fertile land used to produce the typical British ‘meat-and-dairy’ based diet. What is your vegan hope for bringing new life to all these acres?

If you have a UK MP, tell them too: worldveganmonth.net/stock-free-farming/ The Vegan Society are visiting the UK House of Commons on World Vegan Eve, Wed 31 Oct 2012. Email your photo-message to Amanda on: media@vegansociety.com by 5pm BST Wed 17 Oct 2012 to be considered for our UK Parliament slide show. Or send it by the end of World Vegan Month, Fri 30 Nov 2012, to be considered for the final wrap-up show. Thank you!

Vegan Society vs. Leaping Bunny?

Tuesday, September 18th, 2012

Alright, so I am trying to buy cruelty free products here in the UK, but it is easier to find some with the Vegan Society (VS) logo than with the Leaping Bunny (LB) logo. I was wondering if the VS logo means "products and ingredients NOT tested on animals".

I know that veganism means abstaining from the use of animal products, and I guess that they wouldn’t want people testing those products on animals even if they are natural, right?

The thing is that I keep seeing on the back of the bottles of shampoo and all that things like "not tested on animals", but I don’t trust it because the ingredients could have been tested on them. So I need to know if at least the VS logo would be enough or if I also would need the LB one.

All I want to do is be able to use skincare products and be 100% sure that no animal suffered at all so I would smell and look nice.

Also, if you could recommend any brands or something it would be nice. I have ordered some things from Faith in Nature, but it can be a bit expensive, or if I need something right now, I’d like to be able to go and buy it in a certain supermarket because of the logo thing.

Thank you for your help!! =)

Vegan society would definitely be the way to go. The leaping bunny logo only makes sure that the product was not tested on animals. It doesn’t guarantee it being vegan. The vegan society one does. Vegans of course don’t buy anything tested on animals, so there is no worry.

Oh and usually if a product says it’s not tested on animals, it really isn’t tested on animals. The only tricky ones are the ones that say "Final product not tested on animals" which suggests that some of the ingredients used to make the product may have been individually tested on animals.
