Becoming Vegetarian — You Are What You Eat

Monday, January 9th, 2012

http://vegetarianlife-style.com/
You’ve certainly heard the expression many times, “You are what you eat.” Have you ever really thought about what it means? And do you think about it when you’re making food choices?
In some ways, we do become what we eat, literally. Have you ever seen an example of your blood plasma after eating a fast food hamburger? What was previously a clear liquid becomes cloudy with the fat and cholesterol that’s absorbed from eating a high-fat hamburger.
And when you think about it, we also become what we don’t eat. When we switch from eating meat to a vegetarian-based diet, we become less fat, less prone to many types of cancers. Our cholesterol can improve. When we’re leaner and eating fewer animal products, then many other health and fitness issues are reduced.
The incidence of Type II diabetes is reduced. Blood pressure falls into normal ranges. When you’re healthier, you’re taking fewer medications. Even if you have a prescription drug benefit in your health plan, you’re still saving money with fewer co-payments on medications.
If you have a family history of high cholesterol or high blood pressure, then it’s particularly incumbent on you to revise your eating habits. Moving towards a more vegetarian diet has been shown statistically to reduce the incidence of so many of the diseases of industrialized countries. Vegetarians are statistically healthier than omnivorous persons; they’re leaner and live longer.
Isn’t it time to think about what you want to be and to eat accordingly? Do you want to be sluggish and fat? Do you want the risk that goes with eating animal products, with their high fat content? Or do you want to look like and be what vegetarians are? Leaner and fitter with a longer anticipated lifespan. It’s never too late to change what you’re doing and increase your chances for a longer, fitter life.

Warum Vegetarier? Why being vegetarian?

Vegetarier — warum? Becoming a vegetarian — why?

An explanation why one should decide to be a vegetarien, probably already Albert Schweizer has brought to the point at the best: “As long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be battlegrounds ”

Therein are essential wise sayings that are hidden in that sentence:
Where our mental attitude is considerably influenced by our acts and converse.

Thus there is nevertheless only one world like ours. In our whole galaxy and millions of stars and light-years far, there is no second, which is populated with liveforms at all. Therefore life is particularly precious.

Fact is that all living beings descend from one origin form, which means that if we take it completely accurate, we do kind of eat-up ourselfs whereas we treat our environment they way we currnetly do.

As ” the crown of the creation” we do have a special obligation for caring for our fellow creatures and our own descendants, additionally also for our environment.

Nonetheless we are not capable to manufacture life — yet are able to make liveless matter alive.
The other way round — however — very easily.

So why become a vegetarian?
Is it wrong to do to something what everybody does and always did?
Is it also correct to kill someone at war?
Do we have war with our fellow creatures?
Albert Schweizer: Slaughterhouses = battlegrounds?

To eat animals is on closer reflection terrible, all the more, how they must live, because we want to eat them.

Basically everyone knows, but supresses it. Within the last quarter of the year 2011, 15.2 million pigs were slaughtered – only in Germany. An inconceivable quantity. Envision what that means and how it feels like. Apart from the fact that this is just a number of “pigs”, there are still uncounted numbers of cows, chickens, geese….

As a “sopisticated civilized lifeform”, we do not like to think, nor even talk about it. We do what our parents learned us, take this for granted without casting in doubt. We sit at the table having dinner. – the only time when we come together.
We sit together at the table and speak about peace and moral principles, cherish our discussion culture at the same time with roasted animal bits in our mouths. And just while written herewith in black and white — it feels increasingly shameful.
But we can decide to live better. That is the good message.

You shall not kill. An essential principle. That is what Albert Schweizer probably meant.
As long as we do not understand this, also our mental attitude is affected by what we eat and reverse.
Above this we do take away the base of life for ourselves — and therewith the base of life for our own species. Only if we recognize and start to make a chance, everyone for himself, little by little will initiate big changes. And maybe this will give true peace, also with our fellow creatures.

To be a vegetarian is heathier in each regard, plus an essential an attitude of mind.

Notice a difference in your health after becoming vegetarian?

Monday, October 31st, 2011

I’m thinking about becoming vegetarian, and wanted to know if anyone felt a difference in their health, such as more energy. A friend who is vegetarian says she noticed a difference right away and her cholesterol and blood pressure improved.

I have been a vegetarian for 5 years, and love it! however, deciding to go veg definently brings about some extra challenges. Firstly, I would reccommend a good mulivitamin as vegetarians tend to have low iron. Also, if you are active I would supplement a protein shake for one meal a day (spirutein is a personal favorite). Also, there is a difference between being a "junk food" vegetarian and a healthy one. In college, i went through a couple phases of junk food veg, which means I ate alot of cheese, bread, and chocolate and prepackaged foods. This was bad because I wasn’t getting enough protein AND was not getting nutrients I needed. However, as long as you are eating healthy (lots of nuts, seeds, veggies, fruit, whole grains, hummus, soy alternatives, ect.) you will find that being vegetarian can be be a wonderful alternative lifestyle. In addition, vegetrarins are less prone to food poisioning, and meals are often lighter and much easier on your digestive system (no more steak comas…yuck!) you are also not ingesting hormones found in meat and will be saving the environment and reducing factory farming. good luck!!
