Do you think if I become vegan I will lose weight?
My favourite foods are all dairy…I eat way too much yoghurt and milk and cheese
and if ice-cream is around I devour it immediately.
What do you think?
Also, I don’t really like meat.
Look, fine it’s hard to get protien, but veganism is freakishly healthy. Vegans on average weigh 20 pounds less than meat eaters. There are so many things in meat that are terrible for you. Mostly veganism is ethical; I prefer going to bed at night knowing that no pigs (some of the smartest animals in the world) are having their hears, tails and teeth cut off on my behalf (its a very common practice in the US, they don’t want the animals to resort to cannibalism and eat each others tails off [cannibalism
is common in factory farms])

My Aunt told me that she feels so much better after being a vegan. I want to see if this theory is true so I’m becoming a vegan for a week to see how I feel. I just had vegan pancakes with syrup. What should I have for lunch, dinner, and a snack? Thanks!
Hey, Good for you.
My main tip would be to try to base meals and snacks around natural, healthy foods. This includes all fruit and vegetables, beans, grains and grain products (such as rice, bread, wheat pasta) and products made from these such as tofu or vegan dairy replacements.
In terms of what to avoid; we don’t eat meat, eggs, dairy (cheese, milk, butter, cream, yogurt) or honey. We also don’t eat any foods which contain these ingredients.
What we do eat is anything else! This includes all fruit and vegetables, beans, grains and grain products (such as rice, bread, wheat pasta) and products made from these such as tofu or vegan dairy replacements.
Sticking to wholefoods as much as possible is a good idea. These are loaded with nutrients so will help you to stay healthy.
Here are some meal suggestions:
Breakfasts:
Porridge with soy milk, dried fruit and seeds
Peanut butter on toast, a banana
Wholegrain cereal with fruit
Fruit salad, soy yogurt and crushed nuts
Lunch:
Vegetable soup, wholemeal roll
Kidney beans, salad and salsa in a wholemeal wrap
Hummus and salad in pita bread
PB & J sandwich
Dinner:
Vegan chili and brown rice
Pasta with veggies and beans
Chickpea and veg curry
And snack suggestions:
Fruit (fresh or dried)
Nuts
Soy yogurt
Carrot sticks and hummus
Make sure you get a source of fat in your diet. I know fat has a bad reputation but it is actually vital for a healthy diet. Avocado and nuts are perfect for this.
I would suggest your first step would be to find a milk replacement, such as soy, almond or oat milk. We use it in so many things such as tea, coffee and cereal so it is a good place to start.
It may also be worth writing out a meal plan for the first few days just while you’re getting the hang of it.
It may seem like a lot of information at first but once you get into it it is really quite easy. Sites like this are also useful if you have any specific questions.
Good luck with it!
